The Secret To Motivation Is To Simply Ask Yourself “Why?”

secret to motivation

Every now and then I like to share thoughts on subjects other than online marketing, such as mindset and motivation because of how much of a role it plays to one’s success.

If you’re looking to achieve more in life or business, this is for you.

If you’re reading this, knowledge isn’t really your problem. Anyone can find facts on success by reading books, reports or studying successful people.

So why is it that you tend to stick to your less than fulfilling position in life? It has to do with implementation. More on that later.

Firstly, I wanted to touch upon this important subject…

Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone

It’s one thing to know what you’re supposed to do to get a more fulfilling life, but it’s a whole other thing to actually go out and do it.

I discovered some time back that I’m not unlike anybody else: when I handle all my basic responsibilities and get enough money to get me to the next day, that fits me snugly into a sort of comfort zone and getting out of there requires a major attitude change.

Perhaps you’re like me, you don’t quite feel okay with where you are, you’d like more from life, you have dreams, and know how to get them, have a lot of potential but still wake up to the same environment every day.

It doesn’t matter how smart you are: in fact some of the more successful people out there don’t have a mind as active as yours — it’s only that they are in perfect harmony with their thought and action. They know what they want and they haven’t found a reason to second-guess or doubt their efforts in attaining it.

What Makes You Get Up Every Morning?

The Secret To Motivation

If you know why you need to wake up early every morning to work on your goals, then you’ll have that fuel and motivation to knock out those goals, and in the process find yourself living a life of purpose.

It’s not enough to work everyday for the bills or to feed your kids. You’ll always have bills to pay and if you’re not careful, you will over time become a slave to a frustrating, vicious routine.

I did that for a long time, waking up every morning to an unfulfilling life, playing my part, believing it was what normal people do in life. But if you want to achieve some form of success, you need a higher purpose.

You probably know this but everyone who achieves success, whether it’s financial success or becoming a famous artist, they got there by working on it, day and night.

It’s not enough to dream, these people wake up every morning with one thing in mind and they are always hungry to succeed. But what makes these people so motivated? They found the right goals and the right reasons to pursue them.

Setting Goals Starts Small

A while back I set some goals for myself, they were pretty simple, I just wanted to see a positive change in my life and I decided the simplest way to see positive change was to be consistent with my actions.

You know the cause and effect rule, what you do now will undoubtedly have an impact on your life later at some point? I began to form good habits and being consistent with it like posting on my blog once a week to going to the gym for 4-5 days a week.

Whatever little habit I thought was hurting me, I quit, and replaced it with something positive, and it wasn’t long before I saw results.

Like many people, I have a problem getting anywhere when I set huge unrealistic goals for myself.

When I first started my business, I didn’t plan to make a billion dollars in one year, instead I planned to make my first $1,000 a month online.. Simple goals are good to start with when you don’t have a life-altering purpose to get you out of bed every morning.

So if you simply want to see change, if you’re absolutely tired of what life’s giving you, you only need to make different choices.

Time may not always be on your side but that’s not a problem if you know you’re doing something productive each day.

Focusing On Money Isn’t The Answer

I set out to earn more money but soon discovered I had to change my whole outlook on life.

If I focused too much on the money I soon got sidetracked by some reality I wasn’t in control of, and it got frustrating.

Few people can say they’ve had enough money. In fact, the richest people in the world are always the first to wake up every morning.

Why is this?

It’s not because they are addicted to money. Very few billionaires go to sleep counting dollar bills. They find the motivation because they’re always working on something. There’s always a new project, a new idea, something to keep them busy, and the money is usually a by-product of their efforts.

It’s harder to maintain consistency if you expect to see guaranteed results at the end of every week. When you change your habits, the change has to start in your mind. Soon it will be reflected in your actions so that every day will be a new opportunity for you to live fully and be productive.

Where Do You Go From Here?

If you like to dream, like I do, imagine yourself having already accomplished your dreams.

Fuel your mind with all the wonderful possibilities and remember that whatever your current job, it has great potential, if you’re ready to work.

Anyone can rise above their surroundings, if they find a good reason why.

Would you like a good reason why to make changes to your life, how about the simple reason you want a different life?

If you’re tired of the way things have been going for you, you only need to start by making a few positive changes and gradually, you will want the new life you’ve discovered.

Your Turn…

What’s your big reason WHY?

What makes you get up every morning?

Do you feel stuck in your comfort zone?

  1. A lot of wisdom in this blog. And “timely” for me. Thanks Aurelius!
    .
My job is on the line right now due to program changes, so I am really looking at this.

I have a few websites on my interests but have no real understanding of how to make money with them. Knowing the logistics of the business hasn’t helped.

I think what you are saying here is the key. It not about the money. Making a living is the motivator ( I love to be lazy), but it is about the creative Spirit and our unique perspectives.

    My “why” —- is to
expand my creative Spirit (beyond the worker bee)
connect with like minded and like-hearted people on my topics
and to help people help themselves, while having FUN with it! The thing is, I cant pretend that I don’t need to make a living.

Hence, a dilemma. It is always nice hearing from you, Mary

    1. Thanks for sharing, Mary. It’s always nice to hear from you, too.

That is a good “why”. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing then it’s a real waste. I’m glad you’re clear on what you want to achieve.

Take it a step at a time and don’t overwhelm yourself with too many things.

  2. Reading your bolg really makes me happy ,it is just like a charger I feel
that I am reading my favorate articles.Thank you so much for making me alive.
My why is very deep ,I wanted to change my life style for a better for a long time
I looked many online business ,but most or all are scam I lost lots of money
and got frustrated. I want to be free off DEBT and live with out stress. But it
looks like I am stuck in the same position .Every time I read your blog it
wakes me up I can’t thank you enough.

    1. Hi again, Almaz. Thank you for sharing your “why”. My aim is to help as many people as possible get out of the grind and make a full-time living online, doing what they love. Lifestyle is important to happiness. All the best!

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more that focusing on the money is definitely not the answer. All my business life this is one thing I lived by – the money is a by-product of my continued actions.

I do feel stuck in my comfort zone and your article reminds me I need to create small, realistic and manageable goals – I have always been one to set unrealistic goals which has left me frustrated and unproductive in the long run.

My reason for getting up every morning and getting things done is the joy of being alive. I am grateful to be here on earth and I keep in my thoughts on those who have not been so fortunate. So while I have the blessing of being able to walk on this earth I will strive to do the best I can – time to get back to the basics I would say. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing Aurelius.

    1. Hi Carl. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, it’s a good habit when you wake up to count your blessings. Even if you might be in the worst position at the moment, always feel grateful for what you have in the present moment.

      Great thoughts, Carl.

  4. Hi Aurelius,
My secret to motivation is “Don’t Give Up!”.
Learn, apply and improve is my way of making it happen.
Yes, occasionally we get lazy and tired but as long as we are patient and persistent, I believe we can be successful one day. That’s my view.
    ~ Michael

  5. Hi Aurelius, I just wanted you to know that I put this blog in a membership forum I am in.

Our HEAD HONCHO asked for blogs we enjoy that he could read while on a plane flight tomorrow.
Also, there are some great people in this forum that I believe will benefit from this blog (and others you have written)..

What a cool question he asked. His name is Matt Wolfe. I hope it is OK to write this.

It feels good to whittle my time down to just a few bloggers and sites. I was overwhelmed and accomplishing NOTHING!
